Works as advertised and clever design
First off, this is NOT a voltage converter so if you have 110V appliances, make sure the power plugs for those are universal (i.e., accept 110-240V) before using them with this overseas. Also, the pics on Amazon sort of make it seem like you get three adapters, but they are really just different modes of the same adapter -you only get one adapter.I like that this adapter is compact and lightweight and it comes in a small cloth carrying case. This was important to me because I didn't want anything too bulky or heavy. And unlike other adapters you don't have to carry around all these other plug extensions (i.e., one for each plug type). You can flip a switch on either side and either a UK, Europe, Asia, or US plug will surface. You can then flip or press the other plugs back into the device so that only one plug type is sticking out (just like in the pictures). I used this in Europe with no problems - as you can see, the Europe plug juts out more than the other modes... Top to learn more

I've had a hard time in the past getting straight information from doctors without some sort of BIAS in their answers, because they're all obviously selling something. This is all you need for any one device to the extent that it is rated for universal voltage of 100-240V AC.Most existing laptops and other electronics are this way these days but some older devices may come with a 110/240V switch so make sure that you check before you plug your device into the foreign outlet, especially if you do it into the outlet of 'higher' voltage.On this adapter's features:- Works as a plug converter on both sides, meaning that you can plug in either a US, Euro or South American device on one end and the outlet you plug it into can be either of the above.- Supports both 2-prong and 3-prong US plugs.- It is NOT a voltage converter. I purchased this converter to use with my laptop and cell phone / video camera charging. The converter itself is easy to use. It worked very well in Hong Kong because they use British style plugs. China uses the Australian type plugs. When using these plugs there is no third plug. Some circuits at upscale hotels will only work if 3 prongs are used, not just 2. When two prongs are used either in the Australian plug or the European plug, the connection is very flimsy and falls out of the socket easily. I did not have to use this much in China as the hotel I was staying at (a Mariott hotel) had several options on the wall plate that allowed me to use American plugs.Regaring power transformers: Most of Asia uses 220 - 240 Volt circuits. If all you are using are laptops and cell phone / camera charging cords, most of those will tolerate up to 240 volts. Seems to work well, some minor quibbles
This transformer has worked admirably so far. I used it on a trip to India, and it worked well. It doesn't make any noise while in use, and it seems to stay reasonably cool. Not like I'm drawing all that much wattage through it, but it seems to be just fine.Just a few quibbles:1. The 110-volt North American plug offered on the front of the unit has a spot for a grounding prong, but the unit itself is not grounded. I still cannot fathom the logic of that design choice. Especially in India, where European plugs are *required* to have a grounding prong. You can't get a plug like this one into the outlet without one; the outlets have an internal safety device that only opens when a grounding prong is inserted into the outlet. Sadly, the only way I could get this to work in India was to insert a pen in the grounding prong hole to release the safety and then insert the plug into the power holes.2. Worked fine and not too bulky
If you are going to Europe and want a step-down converter, this will do the trick. I used on my trip to Spain. It's not as big as others.I used it to charge my camera & iPhone and it worked great.My girlfriend also used it for her hair straightener and that worked fine as well. Great Hair Dryer
I bought this item because I was going to Europe for a month. I didn't want the hassle of using a voltage converter because you can only use one electric item at a time, unless you buy more than one converter kit. You do need a plug adaptor, (these are relatively inexpensive), then you just switch the voltage, plug it in and it works great. I used it in Switzerland, France and Italy. When I came home to the States I just switched the voltage back and I now use it at home. It is small and takes up very little space in the suitcase. I would recommend it for anyone in need of a hair dryer traveling abroad. Top to learn more

About the 220 V Settings
NOTE: I do not own this hair dryer, but to add a review I had to add a star rating. I used the average of 4 stars to keep the rating unchanged.PLEASE NOTE that a lot of these hair dryers do nothing more than mechanically lock out the on-off switch from using the HI TEMP setting WHEN set for 220 volt input for foreign countries. That is very typical.PLEASE ALSO NOTE that the Low Heat mode at 220 volts does not work the same as 110 volts. From an electrical point of reference, doubling the voltage yields a four fold increase in power (wattage). If the Low Heat mode at 110 volts (USA value) is 400 watts, then using this dryer in Low Heat mode at 220 volts (eg, Europe) would generate 1600 watts. That's the way the power equation works. That's how my current unit worked when we vacationed in Europe. Low Heat mode at 220 volts generates high heat and a fast fan speed.WHAT you lose is the low power curling and shaping mode when using these dryers... Top to learn more

Very good compact hair dryer
I purchased this hair dryer for an unusual reason: my old 1875 watt Conair was actually too much wattage for my bathroom (the circuit kept tripping), so I was actually looking for a dryer with LESS wattage. However, I didn't want to sacrifice power, as I hoped not to have to devote any additional drying time to my shoulder-length hair.So far, I've been pleased with this hair dryer. It does seem a bit louder than my previous model--not obnoxiously so, just a higher, more concentrated fan noise. The dryer is extremely light and compact; it's actually smaller than my folding travel dryer. It is very basic, with a choice of high/low settings only (there is no heat/cool option), but it seems to dry my hair just as efficiently as my old higher-wattage dryer.UPDATE November 2007: Unfortunately, we had to stop using this hair dryer after about a year. We found that it would cut off in the middle of use, necessitating turning the unit off and re-starting... Top to learn more
