A Must Have For People with Chemically Relaxed Hair
I was surfing the net for a hair care book that would help me with my hair problems. I read the reviews for Beautiful Black Hair and ordered it. My hair was dry, brittle, and thinning in spots. I read Shamboosie's book and was so impressed with the information that it provided, it was hard to put it down. I finished it in one day. I ran out and purchased the products he recommended that same night and he is absolutely correct, the right products make a world of difference. I followed the formula's he recommended and saw results after the second treatment. My hair looks and feels so much better. He knocks no-lye relaxers and that's okay because I don't use it anyway. However, I do know people with very beautiful healthy hair that does. As he points out, the key to a great head of hair is conditioner, conditioner, conditioner. Definitely one of the best hair care books on the market especially for women or men with flat cell (kinky) hair. Top to learn more

A no nonsense book about Black Hair Care
I read this book and it truly changed the way I treated my hair. His program introduced at the beginning of the book should make a big difference especially if you have dry damaged hair like I did. He recommends: washing every four days for the first several weeks followed by a deep conditioner, then at least once every week from then on. He is against non-lye relaxers for very good reasons. He does recommend products that may seem expensive. I think having a good shampoo and conditioner is a must and a good investment to make. It is ok to scrimp on the other stuff. I am presently using the Nexxus Biotin shampoo and the Humectress conditioner. Honestly I am satisfied with both. I have not bought any of the Dudley products and probably will not. My hair is no longer cronically dry and my scalp is no longer dry and itchy. I mix Mane and Tail with oil and apply to my hair 1 hour before I shampoo, but I no longer oil my scalp after I shampoo. Amazing pomade to add shine, tame frizz, and "SOTC" for curly-haired gals
Okay, this is one of those products you hear recommended over and over at CurlTalk, the forum of the NaturallyCurly website. There's a reason it's a word-of-mouth Holy Grail product for curlies and worth the big price, or rather, several reasons:1. Smells crazy good. Every time I open this up to use anywhere near my sisters or relatives, they wanna know what it is that smells so good.2. It's got lots of nice natural ingredients.3. It lasts and lasts, cause you only need a tiny eety bitsy bit to do the hair thang.4. It actually does provide emollience for hair that needs to hold onto its moisture.5. Only 5 Stars?
I've been a Jane Carter customer since moving to (it's a dry heat) Arizona. If there is a more effective product on the market, I haven't found it. My hair magnificently absorbs all of the oils sans the greasy feeling! Along with the Scalp Serum and Renew products, I no longer have any breakage and more importantly, my hair sheds less and has grown from earlobe to below shoulder length. Did I mention that I also use her shampoo and conditioning products? I'm such a fan!! As a side note, I used to purchase the product line directly from her website, but found it at a lower price here at Amazon/Vitamin Shoppe. The few dollars saved went toward postage. Bravo Jane Carter for your product line (something for every hair type/style) and thank you Amazon for the savings.

beautiful scent, beautiful ingredient list
I bought this product because of the scent and the simple, natural, easy-to-understand ingredient list. I love it. Where else can you find a hair and skin care product whose ingredient list isn't full of strange-sounding chemicals? And the scent is so beautiful and delicious. I have been using it to moisturize my skin, hands, and cuticles.I originally bought this because of frizzy, dry hair ... but I ended up using it on my skin instead because my hair stopped being frizzy for other reasons. (I switched to the "no poo" Curly Girl method of hair care at about the same time that I bought this, and my frizz went away ... definitely google that if you have dry frizzy hair.)It's such a good skin moisturizer, and I will definitely use all of it in spite of my lack of frizz. :) Moisturizing with this before bedtime has become a little ritual for me, and the scent just puts me to sleep.

Excellent long-term gray coverage, soft, shiny hair!!!
I've been coloring my hair at home for over 20 years, and now have lots of resistant white--not gray--hair at 47. As with any hair color, if you have lots of gray/white, you should stick to the basic Neutral shades, or Natural, as they are sometimes called. Sometimes, the warm golds work alright, too. But don't bother with anything with ashy cool tones or it will accentuate your gray, or red tones because they just don't take properly or last well at all! I think a lot of people out there don't realize this. At any rate, this product is overall 100X better than L'Oreal Excellence and regular Nice 'n Easy for coloring gray. It works in 25 vs. the 45 min. total time needed for those others. It smells the same or better than most. It's creamy, not drippy. And it hits a home run, after trying so many different products (including the 10-minute types) in leaving my hair really shiny and soft, and the color NEVER, EVER fades. Works like a charm
Honestly, I've tried all kinds of hair products before but the stubborn grays are here to stay. So many hair products not only are ineffective, they often tangle the hair and I spend way too much time trying to even out the solution throughout my shoulder length hair (I imagine those with longer hair will find it a living hell). The end result is not only unsatisfactory (gray hairs still there) but I ended up with damaged hair from the chemicals and the split ends from the tangled mess.But I had no such problems with Clairol's Gray Solution Nice n Easy. It actually smells nice (not that awful strong ammonia scent that could raise the dead). The solution applies smoothly to the hair and does not tangle the hair. I could gently apply the solution evenly and create less messy splatters in the bathroom. Best thing is, the Gray Retexturizing Pre-Treatment REALLY makes a difference! Really does cover gray hair
I've tried a number of products that didn't cover my gray roots. This does. There's a separate packet of gel that you work through your hair before coloring, and it's not much extra effort at all. How To Use
DO SKIN ALLERGY TEST 48 HOURS BEFORE EACH APPLICATION EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY USED COLORING PRODUCTS
GET READY TO COLOR
• Use an old towel to protect your clothing and household surfaces. • Have a clock handy for timing.
1. PRE-TREAT DRY HAIR
Before coloring, apply the Gray Solution Retexturizing Pre-treatment to dry hair, all over from roots to tips.
• Do not rinse! • Wash hands. Begin color preparation [Step 2].
2. PREPARE
• Put on Professional Colorist Gloves.. • Tear off and discard the tab from Activating Creme bottle (2b), then unscrew the applicator bottle cap.
• Empty entire contents of the Color Creme tube [2a] (previously opened for Skin Allergy Test) into the Activating Creme bottle [2b] and replace cap.
• Place gloved finger over the applicator tip. Shake well, holding away from face, until color is totally blended and mixture thickens. Apply color immediately.
Never reseal bottle or store color mixture in a closed container. Once mixed, a sealed container of haircolor could burst.
3. APPLY COLOR & TIME IT
FOR ROOT APPLICATION Ideal for users who color every 4-6 weeks to help maintain your gray defying color and ensure even color root to tip. • Part your hair down the middle and apply the color mixture to your roots, using the applicator nozzle to separate your hair into sections and continue applying the color to your roots only. Save the remainder of the color to use for the rest of your hair.
• Leave the color on your roots for 20 minutes or for 5 minutes less than the time indicated by your Strand Test. • Then use the remaining color and gently work through the rest of your hair, but avoid rubbing into the scalp. Leave on for an additional 5 minutes. • Pour any unused color mixture down the drain. Once mixed, it will lose its effectiveness after an hour.
OR FOR ALL-OVER GRAY COVERAGE Use these instructions if you have not colored for 3 months or if you want to change your haircolor. • Squeeze Activating Creme bottle [2b] to apply color onto hair. When covering gray, start where you have the most gray. • Part your hair into small, even sections using the applicator nozzle. • Apply color first to your roots then immediately through the length of your hair. Work through hair to spread evenly, from root to tip, but don't rub into scalp. • Do not worry if the color of the mixture on your hair looks different from your desired color.
• If any color gets on your skin or household surface, wipe it off immediately with a damp towel.
• Once you have finished applying the color, leave it on hair for the time indicated by your Strand Test or 25 minutes. • Pour any unused color mixture down the drain. Once mixed, it will lose its effectiveness after an hour.
4. RINSE & GLOSS
• Add a small amount of warm water and massage into a lather. Rinse until water runs clear.
• For optimal color results, leave on for 2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. • Save remaining ColorSeal™ Conditioning Gloss and continue to use once a week (after shampooing) in place of your usual conditioner for optimal color, shine and softness.

Should individuals with natural, uncolored hair use different haircolor products than those who have previously colored their hair?
It depends on the desired result. How can I test-run a color before committing to coloring my entire head of hair?

A strand test will also help you determine the exact timing you'll need to color your whole head.

You have already experienced any reaction to coloring products.
You have sensitive, irritated or damaged scalp.
In these cases do not conduct the skin allergy test and consult a doctor before using any haircolor product.
2. PERFORM A SKIN ALLERGY TEST 48 HOURS BEFORE EACH PRODUCT USE even if you have already used coloring products before
SKIN ALLERGY TEST INSTRUCTIONS
MUST BE PERFORMED 48 HOURS BEFORE YOU COLOR YOUR HAIR. You will need a cotton ball or swab, a plastic bowl and a plastic spoon.
To open, unscrew the entire applicator bottle cap from the Gray Solution Activating Creme bottle [2b]. (Do not tear off the tab.)
Then open the Gray Solution Color Creme tube [2a]. Unscrew cap and turn it upside down. Push the pointed end of the cap into the seal to open
Mix small, equal parts of Color Creme [2a] and Activating Creme [2b] (about 1 teaspoon) in a plastic bowl.
Tightly recap both the Color Creme tube [2a] and the Activating Creme bottle [2b].
Apply mixture to a test area the size of a quarter in the bend of your elbow. Allow to dry. Use remaining mixture for the Strand Test. Do not wash this area for 48 hours. During washing, protect with an adhesive bandage and remove it immediately after washing.
Examine the test area during the next 48 hours. If no reaction occurs, you are ready to color. The absence of reaction to this test is no guarantee that an allergic reaction may not occur as a result of a future haircoloring process. However, this test represents an important precaution. Please consult a doctor if you have any doubts.
NOTE: IF A RASH, REDNESS, BURNING OR ITCHING OCCURS YOU MAY BE ALLERGIC. STOP. YOU MUST NOT USE THIS PRODUCT.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A REACTION DURING OR WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS OF COLORING YOUR HAIR IF DURING COLORING YOU EXPERIENCE:
Any stinging or burning and/or rash, rinse immediately and discontinue use as this may be an indication of a more serious reaction. DO NOT color your hair again before consulting a doctor or seeking medical advice.
Rapidly spreading skin rash, dizziness or faintness, shortness of breath and/or swelling eyes/face, rinse immediately and SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
IF AFTER COLORING OR ON THE FOLLOWING DAYS YOU EXPERIENCE problems, such as skin itching, skin rash, swelling to eyes/face, blistering and/or skin or scalp weeping SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
SPECIAL CAUTIONS:
This product contains ingredients including hydrogen peroxide, which may cause severe eye irritation and possible permanent eye injury. If any product gets into your eye, flush immediately with a large amount of lukewarm water and seek medical advice.
We recommend removing contact lenses before applying haircolor. If you must wear contact lenses during application and if any product gets into your eye, remove the lens first, then flush immediately with a large amount of lukewarm water and seek medical advice.
Never use haircolor on eyebrows or eyelashes or if your scalp is irritated or injured.
Do not inhale or ingest product.
Do not use if your hair has been colored with henna or metal dyes.
Prepare and use the product in a well-ventilated area. If you experience inhalation difficulties, move to fresh air.
Remove all metal objects from hair before and during coloring.
Wear gloves and rinse hair well after application.
Keep product in a cool place away from heat and light. Do not mix this colorant with any other product. Do not keep any unused mixed product. Do not leave the mixture in a closed bottle (bottle may expand or burst).

STRAND TEST:
Do the Strand Test each time you color to determine optimal timing and color results. Perms, relaxers, previous color, and the sun can affect your results and timing. You will need: scissors, tape and a clock.
Cut a ¼ inch wide strand from the grayest part of dry hair close to the scalp and tape at the cut end.
Completely cover the hair strand with the mixture remaining from the Allergy Test. Start timing.
After 15 minutes, check the strand. If the strand is not the color you want, return it to the mixture and check the color every few minutes for up to 25 minutes.
