P7000: DSLR quality in a P&S package
Let's get the facts out first. I've been a Nikon shooter for several decades, currently with a D300 (haven't made the leap yet to full frame, but that's next). I'm an amateur, but shoot at a pro level. My focus is on music and sports photography, and I like to have a good camera with me when I travel (my last ride-along P&S has been a Lumix DMC-TZ5). I shoot in a variety of conditions, but what I need must a) provides high quality images, b) be really portable (fits in my purse, can get into concerts that ban DSLRs unless you're shooting on assignment) c) have a longer lens option (200mm is 'table stakes') and d) provide the flexibility to twiddle the dials to find the best combo of ISO-aperture-shutter speed for a particular situation. Having HD capability is a nice-to-have.I've been shopping for a new P&S easily for a year. Got interested and then uninterested in the Canon G11/G12/S95 because the lens is too short (even the extenders don't push it out far enough)...

Nikon P7000 really a joy to use!
This is a great camera if you're looking for an extremely customizable compact camera.Size and Handling -- This really just depends on what you are looking for. If you want a pocket camera that can fit into shirt pockets, jean pockets, etc then this is not the camera for you and you really should look elsewhere. For me, it's the perfect size, not too big and not too small. The camera is solid but not too heavy.Picture quality -- I shoot mainly in RAW and the quality so far is excellent. Little noise up to ISO400 and usable to ISO800. Can go to 1600 in a pinch.Autofocus -- Focus is fast and accurate. There are options for Autofocus, Macro Focus, Infinity, and Manual Focus. Be sure to read the manual and spend time understanding the focus options. Some people are reporting focus issues and I believe many are related to users not learning enough about the focus system.Write speed -- This is where I would have given a 4 1/2 instead...

A good camera for the serious hobbyist
For the past two decades I've been an avid photographer. My professional equipment choices have leaned towards Nikon. My point and shoot purchases towards Canon. Great compact camera
I have been using the P7100 for over a month now. I am familiar with the camera as I used the P7000 before (for one year and since it came out). I did have problems with the P7000, but mainly issues with the lens cover not opening fully and those issues developed very early on. The Coolpix P7100 does not exhibit those problems so it's a great camera. I tested it on a 1000 pictures in one week. It takes wonderful pictures with very appealing and natural colors. Everybody comments on the picture quality. So optics are great.The camera is user friendly with lots of dials that save time. The predecessors did not have all the dials. I have used the camera in all possible modes and find it responsive. I have captured action pictures such as surfers, bikers, runners, volley ball players and the camera delivers wonderful results with very sharp pictures.I am not a photographer. I just enjoy taking pictures. But I have taken the time to learn the camera. One...

An excellent camera.
I have had the P7100 for over 3 weeks and I am extremely pleased with it. I think the quality of the RAW images from the P7100 are as good as many a DSLR at ISO 100. The JPEGS are also, excellent. Of course, as the ISOs get higher there is more noise due to the smaller sensor, but it does very well at all ISOs for a compact camera, but do not expect DSLR low noise levels.I find the ergonomics and features of the P7100 are excellent and very much like a DSLR. I love the articulated LCD. For me, the articulated LCD makes a huge difference. I now am taking photos with perspectives I simply did not try to get before with a fixed LCD. Also, I can steady the camera against my body with the LCD in horizontal position to reduce camera shake and it is easier to see in bright sunlight. There is a Command Dial and a Sub-Command dial and the two dials makes Manual Mode easy to use, although this is not a mode I typically use, as there is no histogram available when using Manual...

It Is What It Is
This adaptor allows the WC-E75A ultrawide converter to be mounted on the Nikon Coolpix P7000 and P7100 cameras. This is theonly function for this adaptor. The UR-E22 performs this task in an acceptable manner. It is not made to mount filters oraftermarket accesories. It is not designed to be left on the camera when the WC-E75A is not in use. If you want to use filtersor aftermarket accesories with the P7000/7100, check out the Polaroid unit. At $38.69, the UR-E22 is a rather expensive pieceof plastic, and there is some play between the camera body and this adaptor. This is why I rated it at 4 stars.

Fine Ultrawide
I like ultrawide lenses, and I have a Nikkor UD 20mm for my film cameras. I purchased the Coolpix P7000 in Nov. 2010, anddecided at that time that the WC-E75A was to expensive an accesory for a camera I was not sure I would like. I quickly grewto appreciate the P7000, but I missed having ultrawide capability. When the price of the WC-E75A dropped to $200, I couldn'tresist. Still thought it was overpriced. When I unboxed the lens, I realized why it cost so much. This thing is a serious chunkof glass. 77mm front element, metal lens barrel, LC-77 lens cap (just like a top of the line Nikkor), and a drawstring pouchfor storage. Made a very good first impression, and I immediately mounted it up and took some test shots. There is no loss ofsharpness or light transmission, and distortion is minimal. WC-E75A Wide-Angle Converter for Nikon P7100
I bought this lens for my new Nikon P7100 Camera. It is fantastic. This is the only converter lens for the P7100 camera. It mounts quickly onto the camera. Make sure you order the Nikon Adapter Ring (UR-E22) as the other rings on the market are not compatible. The lens does exhibit a bit of barrel distortion but that can be fixed with most digital image programs.
