One of the best cabinets out there. . .
I purchased the Synergy 329 cabinet together with the plasma stand.I am a big fan of Synergy - I purchased a Synergy cabinet 10 years ago, and it has served me very well. During that time, I changed components constantly, and was always impressed by its flexibility, in particular the easy access on the back, as well as the shelves which can be adjusted to any height.With my new Synergy purchase through Amazon, everything was delivered without a single scratch. I also purchased the plasma stand, and was very impressed by the solidness of it (it was a big chunk of solid steel). The whole thing took only about 1 hour to put together and was very straightforward with clear directions. Also, I was able to mount my Pioneer PRO-111 to the combination very easily.I really like two things:1) I can pull out the cabinet very easily if I need to access connections on the back of the TV.2) The plasma is located at the back of the cabinet. Satisfied with purchase
Overall, I'm satisfied with the unit, it seems to be well made and looks great. The descriptions matched to my expectations and despite other reviews indicating damage due to insufficent shipping protection, everything arrived in good condition. A couple of observations for those considering the unit: First the minor ones: (1) it is VERY heavy, I'm not looking forward to moving it in the future (but this also speaks to the overall quality); (2) the assembly instructions are pretty cryptic but once you get the concept, you can see how the whole thing is engineered; although, I ended up with extra pieces (I assume Salamander provides extras "just in case" and a couple where I had (and still have) no clue what to do with. For the major "gotcha": it's a real pain to try and get everything adjusted correctly, as the shelves, doors, and feet are all movable'adjustable; this part has been the most time-consuming (literally hours) so be prepared with a good level (the one Salamander...

too beautiful to be an a/v stand
I was leery ordering this moderately expensive a/v cabinet sight unseen for my new home, but to my amazement it was a perfect fit in both size and beauty. Thick real maple top and bottom panels add warmth and beauty to it's high quality look. It is beyond functional! My 42" Plasma TV fits it like a glove. It hides my components and is the perfect height for viewing the television from the sofa and chairs.The black glass panel doors allow easy use of the remote control without having to open them.One surprise was how heavy it is! It takes 2 people to lift it comfortably. It was very well designed for assembly and the instructions were easy to follow. Not a good idea to try to put it together without reading them, however, as it is a bit exacting. All tools needed (including a level) are included. You do need a large space to lay out all of the pieces. Overall I am thrilled with the look, function, and quality of this piece of fine furniture.

High quality cabinet
We were looking for an enclosed cabinet for our electronics because we have a 9 month old son and we needed to hide components from him. Our house is full of a mahogany/red cherry wood, and I could not find a cabinet that matched those colors. The walnut matches beautifully. The ability to mix and match difference accessories makes this cabinet amazing. The Synergy series are pricey, but thats because its one of the highest quality cabinets i've seen. Its definitely not one of those cheap slap together desk/tables/cabinets you get from Staples, Walmart, or Target. Its solid and heavy and looks great, highly recommended!

Great Cabinet, but be warned...
If you've seen this piece at the local stores you've probably heard that they come assembled. Well, the Amazon version requires assembly. While it wasn't too difficult or time consuming (maybe two hours including disposal/organization of packing materials), it would have been nice to know it. Aside from assembly, the quality and look of the cabinet are great. Definitely worth the sales tax savings to get it through Amazon - plus you get that feeling of accomplishment once you've put the thing together.

Robust and well designed product...but full of dings
I really do love the beauty and the well thought out design behind the Synergy system. It is a modular design so you can always come back and expand on the system in the future.It took me many hours to put it together (and I will explain more below on this).The pieces are all very sturdy (thick wood, strong and heavy vertical supports) so you know it can hold a good amount of weight. Even the secondary pieces (such as the rear boards) are nicely made. There is nothing "cheap" looking about this system at all.The cherry and black option also looks very nice (it looks a little darker than what I noticed on the monitor). I would have liked it if somehow they could make it so the heads of the top screws are not exposed.OK so what am I not happy about? First off...it was missing two pieces (a washer and a silver screw knob on the rear). I ended up using things from my toolbox to supplement.Almost every piece has minor dings...

Great TV Cabinet
I had shopped IKEA and on line for TV stands and cabinets to find something I would like that would fit with my decor and support a 46" flat panel TV I was planning to purchase but I couldn't seem to find anything even close to my desires for a reasonable price until I saw this Salamander Synergy cabinet offered on line at a discount if purchased with the very TV I was interested in buying. What luck! Though I wouldn't normally purchase furniture without actually seeing it in person first, I was so worn out from "shopping" that I bit the bullet and ordered the cabinet. I'm very glad I did. It's a well-made and very sturdy cabinet. It loses the fifth star only because of the tedious assembly process required and the fact that the nuts and bolts package was one custom bolt short, which is always a bummer. There are 3 shelves and 1 drawer, all which can be "infinitely" adjusted, including putting the drawer in the upper position (which I did) unlike the unit in the photo which shows...

I had been looking for months for an audio rack for my new gear and wanted to wait till I found the perfect piece. This one holds everything I own, and with the perforated steel door panel, it keeps my system ventilated. Great product, but poorly packaged hence arrived damaged
Since this item is fairly expensive for an A/V cabinet, you would expect that great care would be taken to protect the contents with cushioning to buffer it for ground shipment. The item arrived with a large hole punched through the surface of the box and damage to the contents was evident by peering through the hole. Amazon was excellent about sending out a replacement immediately. The second shipment arrived quickly, but it also had a hole in the box. This cabinet is quite heavy and should be wrapped well and contain filler to reduce damage caused within the box with things shifting about, as well as to protect it from rough handling in transit. Even some of the plastic straps had broken on the first box, so strong wrap on the exterior or at least reinforced tape over the straps might be needed. After reporting damage found to the second shipment, I was given the okay to see if I had one good one between the two shipments. I searched through both boxes and finally managed to...

Nice, but has many issues for the price
I took some time to find a new audio video rack for my small home theater I put together and was looking forward to receiving this rack. When the box arrived it wasn't damaged however when I opened the unit the shelves were placed in the box without any shipping material between the individual shelves. The result was that each shelf was scratched. I know that these will be hidden in the unit under the components but for the money I really wish they invested a few cents for packing material between each shelf. The next issue is that the unit did not arrive with assembly instructions. I had to utilize the instructions from the Salamander web site (PDF) file which did not include how the door attached to the unit (Its obvious though for anyone who has assembled furniture before though). The last issue is that the unit does not come with wheels, which I highly recommend doing (most new AV tuners are 60 pds alone + all the other component weights add up to something that would...

Great functionality, good quality, not so great value
I have to come some where in between the good and bad reviews here. This is definitely not "cheap ikea wood" but it's also not quite the overall quality I expected for well over a thousand dollars. The front doors are real, solid, well crafted wood, the top and bottom (which are identical pieces of wood) are very dense, very strong composite wood with a really nice finish. Most of the hardware is good, heavy duty stuff (for instance the door hinges), but not everything. The end panels are something much cheaper and thinner, possibly a wood/polymer composition... just not what I expected for the price. It rattles when you tap on it. Also the bolts DEFINITELY show on top. I read a review that said this before I bought, but I didn't realize we were basically talking about two stacked pennies on top in 8 places. The bolts are smooth and tapered, but still...you see them even from across the room. Not a huge deal, just not what I expected for well over a grand.I'm very...

Salamander Synergy 237 Rack
This rack fit my application perfectly. It looks look, has a very innovative design and I doubt you could do any better with any other brands available. I can confidently recommend this with only one caveat. Due to the fact that you have to put it together (which is not hard but not trivial either) and it is not really what I consider furniture quality, I believe it is overpriced if you pay retail. I believe other reviewers have noted this. I would not consider buying it if I could not get at least 30% off retail which I was able to find from amazon.com with some waiting. This is my reasoning for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.
