Perfect for making small woodworking knives
This is a convenient thing for making small tools (woodworking knives in my case).Pros:1. Thin enough you can use a propane torch to harden/anneal.2. Ground flat on both sides means less work lapping later (though you need to lap).3. Good quality steel.Cons:1. A bit pricey, a drawback when you only need small quantity. If you have a better/cheaper supply go for it by all means, but I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

Great stuff!
I've made a set of woodcarving knives and several small belt knives from o1 and I'm well pleased. It comes fully annealed and is very easy to cut, machine, and grind. I've hardened all the blades I've made in a gas-fired forge with a reducing atmosphere, experiencing very little surface decarburization and no tendency for thin sections to burn. However, I did discover that holding thin (3/32") blades flat-side-on directly in the flame of the gas burner would cause them to warp slightly. Allowing the forge to get thoroughly hot and keeping the blade out of the direct blast of the burner alleviated this problem. I test for critical temperature with a small magnet and quench in vegetable oil.Do observe the manufacturers' warnings not to temper this steel at temperatures above 450F as the steel can become brittle at tempering temperatures between 450-600F. I've tempered all the blades I've made in the kitchen oven at a nominal temerature of 375F (an oven thermometer registers...

excellent quality and comes with valuable information
I am using this steel for blacksmithing so the quality is important and the characteristics are important. It is high quality and it comes clearly labeled with very valuable information about what temperatures are needed to both harden and temper it. Very happy with this purchase. Great quality.
